THURSDAY 25 OCTOBER: Google meet session
Parallel Project
I need more work on ideas and consider the questions that come to the front, acknowledging the making that needs to happen. It is clear that I am at a point somewhere between painting and drawing. I want to consider taking my work into that space. I will focus on the collaboration project and bring that making to the PP.
Referencing and Contextualising
My reference, according to the Harvard System has many gaps, which is not where I should be at this stage. I have to ensure that I complete in-text citations and reference my knowledge and use of visual images. I have made assumptions that the reader of my writings needs to understand through such referencing. I will rework on part 3 and present it to my tutor as I finish each project. I value that my tutor will assist me to ensure my work is of good academic writing standard.
My tutor previously encouraged that I think about the context of my making, as it is interesting. I should embrace my ideas with more confidence.
Presented work
I understand that my work could push further and show stages of exploration and rigorous questioning of where a particular work resides. It is showing the intention of the work that is necessary and my tutor finds it lacking in my making during this part of the course. The material quality of my work shows that I can make and experiment with ideas and bring in responsive writing.
My tutor suggests I look at the work of Eva Hesse – her drawings and how it relates to sculptures. I can use this to develop ideas around Las Meninas figures further. I am interested in the Surrealist ideas of R Baes and want to bring this into my continued exploration. I need to spend more time working on these works to push to more stages of making and developing work in this part. I will go back to my work around the mirrors/reflections and narrative ideas where I brought in my own childhood memories. I want to revisit Assignment 3 and explore the making. I will share the re-work with my tutor.
After a google search on Eva Hesse, I was reminded of this passionate and in-touch sculptor, who explored materials, writing, painting, drawing in her practice. I decided to revisit older work and bring it into the work I presented as Assignment 3, which by now makes more sense to explore and brainstorm directly onto the paper support. It is as if a heavy load of fear and uncertainty was lifting off my shoulders. I explored with rope, wire, and aluminum foil. I think my struggle with ideas took me to a very confusing space till this recent tutorial. (Notes copied from my blog)
The date for the next assignment is Feb 17th, 2022.
Shared it with my tutor via email.
