PARALLEL PROJECT – VISUAL MAPPING

EXERCISE 1.4. THINKING THROUGH THE STRUCTURE OF THE PARALLEL PROJECT

Method

Do at least 3 visual maps as possible routes that this project could take

Thinking about thinking and making as a studio process. It fascinates me, is it because I am a student? I love research, but also want to make during this process. I am fascinated by the idea of the studio as a place of practice, hiding from others’ views where I make with the idea to show/share. I want to feel comfortable with my own creative processes and feel that the studies have opened up so many possibilities for creating bodies of work from existing works I have done along the course.

Reflection and Mirroring

Rhino project revisited – think of how activism could work on my blog. I recently joined a workshop on Zine making within an activist environment. I am also aware that our own country in the biggest national park is struggling with its management of effective anti-poaching efforts. This could be an area to explore as an activist: are we doing enough; does corruption favour trafficking in rhino horn? ; Why do we not consider dehorning more openly? ; Safe the female cows, and you save a generation – how many cows die with fetuses in them? ; Safe havens for rhinos – is it a myth in conservation? New Colonialism and our natural heritage – who will be the victims?

painting and drawing as an exploration of making and collaboration

Exploring ideas around blurring the line between drawing and painting – Cy Twombly is my inspiration. I also think I could visit the ideas of Kentridge and explore my own making. I can also incorporate my collaboration project with students of the OCA-EU group around the fungi and world of mycelium.

Visual research

I came upon an exhibition of a French artist in Paris, current work.

Rhino ideas to use

Cy Twombly and mushrooms

His series of drawings and prints, called Natural History, Part 1, 1974 came to mind in my research around mushrooms. i also started reading the book, Entangled Life (e book on SCRIBD) I could explore ink making and working on paper which is organic. The collaboration will also be used in the making , and I will share and explore the process of making.
